Logan Bishop is your typical thirteen year old and has a few skills that set him apart from his peers. He is about to embark on a journey and uncover the mystery of the Lady of the Lake.
Sent away to a summer camp by his single mother, Logan makes quick friends with Amber Swinson and Jesse Hamilton. The days of summer camp seem fun and stress free. That is, until one of the campers is found dead. His body decomposed beyond recognition and looking as if it had been submerged in water and decomposing for weeks. A victim of the Lady of the Lake.
Logan, Jesse and Amber embark on a quest to solve the old mystery. Soon, other victims begin turning up. During his investigation, he unravels who this watery ghost was in life and what transpired to make her journey endlessly along the lakeshore near Granby Colorado.
This apparition seeks out her victims at the watery edge of Shadow Mountain Lake where Logan's summer camp is located. It is just a matter of time before Logan solves the mystery or becomes a victim to the Lady of the Lake himself. Along the way, Logan learns the taste of death.
This ghost/horror novel may become the stuff that urban legends are made of.

Here is an excerpt
The fog was thick all around him. He listened expecting to hear the crunch of footsteps from his pursuer. His mind could no longer comprehend that the ghastly specter actually floated at him. The disembodied ghoul made no steps. He could hear a gurgling noise from behind him. He knew what it was. His body took over. Adrenaline was still raging. He gritted his teeth and pushed with his right leg until he was standing. The look of this wraithlike figure was hideous. He could actually see into the open eye sockets. The muscles in its face moved. The expression and the mouth seemed to open wider.
He turned struggling towards the water. He stumbled going through the bushes and made it to the edge of the clearing. That was the point where his body hit its hard limit and became aware of the fact that it was broken and injured. He turned around slowly to see if the nightmare was still there. The apparition was directly at him. It reached out with long arms that appeared to extend out of the dress sleeves. The flesh on the arms was open and decomposed. The hands stretched outward right in Aaron’s face. Some fingers were missing fingernails. Some had the bones actually extending through the flesh and beyond. He opened his mouth for a scream that never came. Time stopped.
He was overcome with the sensation of floating in water. The need for air came to him and then screamed in his lungs. It thudded in his head until everything seemed to go black. There was a feeling of floating and a vision of darkness. The image of rubbing his eyes too hard registered in his brain. Time lapsed in his mind. He felt his mouth open. The last of oxygen came from his mouth and bubbled out. His body inhaled involuntarily lurching as water filled his lungs. He could feel the spasms. His body tried to squeeze oxygen from the fluid. The spasms soon stopped. His body accepted the inevitable and stopped moving. Darkness overtook him. He could sense his skin wrinkling and bloating. His flesh expanded then decayed.
There was a tremendous pressure in his head causing the cornea in his eyes to burst outward. Fluids drained from the opening as the flesh continued to decay. He could still taste in his mouth. The flavor of rotten meat lapsed across his tongue as it decayed in place. The smell in his nasal cavity turned to stench then gave way to a cavity filled with suspended putrid flesh particles draining out his nose. His ears popped and a loud buzzing sound took the place of hearing. He could feel his chest stop beating and moving. His stomach cont

The Lady of the Lake by Patrick Donnell is not the type of book that I usually read at night. I prefer my scary books like my scary movies and that is in the daylight. However I constantly found myself reading this book at night simply because I couldn't put it down. I liked the attention to detail because it allowed me to picture it. For example, during some of the autopsy scenes I felt like I was right there with the examiners peering down at the body; although I did turn my head away a few times until I could calm down. I enjoyed the characters and watching bonds being formed. It brought back memories of the camaraderie of summer camps and the lifelong friendships that are often formed. The best part was seeing how they joined together to solve the mysterious goings on that start soon after Logan arrives at camp. That Lady of the Lake is one scary creature and I really enjoyed the build up to the climax, as well as the surprises along the way. If you are looking for a down-right scary book I recommend The Lady of the Lake.Product details

The Lady of the Lake eBook Patrick Donnell Reviews
I am a horror buff and can see this book making a great horror film! Keep up the spooky tales. I loved it!
I read this book, and the warning of "gruesome content" is what attracted me to the book. I love reading scary, gruesome, and bloody books. This book delivered but only about 3 pages worth of reading... The book took so long to actually get into the story I actually had to force myself to keep picking it up and reading it. So many times I wanted to delete it off my kindle just to get something else, but though maybe the book would pick up in the end.
It seemed as though in this book despite the deaths of children, parents didn't seem to care. It was not until the 3rd death that they decided to close the camp since they couldn't figure out why all these children were dying. What happens after the camp is closed? The kids want to go back to see if there is a ghost and the parents let them go. While they are there they can sleep at camp, swim in the lake, be in the woods late at night by themselves. It was a book that couldn't keep my attention with characters that I couldn't stand. Good luck with this read...
This was a great story.Patrick Donnell. Is a wonderful author. The only problem I found was there was too much detail. It should have only been half as long as it was. Too much detail!!!
I started this with hope. Way too many kindle books lately have been stinkers and I love a good ghost story. This one was very disappointing. First, let me say that the plot was solid. I really liked the idea. 13 year old boy off to spend a month at a summer camp in Colorado. After he arrives mysterious deaths begin to occur. He has strange dreams that seem to be connected to the lake. That's why I gave it the two stars. Unfortunately, the writing was horrible. It needs major editing. I found myself skimming to get to the action. The author describes boring details that don't add to the "feel" of the book. Do I need to know what they are eating every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? The characters were wooden and unreal. The boy was thirteen, but acts more mature than many adults. The dialog was horrible. Not one use of contractions in the whole book! This might seem like nothing, but imagine a girl is sitting on a dock in the lake. She stands up and says, I am going to swim back to the shore now." And dives off the dock. Now imagine all the characters talking like that throughout the book. (And they do) It's not natural. At one point a victims mother is crying and he tells us she cried for 15 minutes. Do we need a time limit? The author does this with the kissing scenes as well. Do we need the exact amount of time the kids make out? I lost count of the times he used the phrase "they looked at each other and felt a connection" The author just could not make the romantic scenes work at all. So I caution you potential buyers. It's not worth 2.99 for this book. The last two or three chapters were great, but did not make up for the rest of this book. Save your money.
This is quite possibly a really good story but the amount of description is just beyond a joke and gets to the point of being silly. The guy gets dressed, fine, that's all need to know, I don't need the length of time he spends in the bathroom, that he's cleaned his teeth, that he sits on the side of his bed to put on his socks and shoes etc etc etc ..... and so it goes on, and on, and on!!!!
Wow, spooky story which gives you the good goosebumps! I'm not really into scary and spooky, but the cover and tittle kind of drew me in at first. I kept reading and I couldn't put my down. Fast paced, you want to find out what happens next. Well written to keep you on edge and make you keep turning the pages even though your eyes are tired and you have to get up in couple of hours to go to work. Thanks Patrick for keeping me up all night! I was a zombie the next day, but you made me stay up and finish the book by 4AM. Advice for future readers! Don't start reading at 6PM. Promise you, you end up like me, staying up all night!
